We've chosen two fantastic examples of stunningly grand wedding venues - Four Seasons in Hampshire, and Oulton Hall in Yorkshire - perfect for the current (not-going-anywhere) trend of the Downton Abbey theme. Four Seasons Hotel is a beautiful Georgian manor house, seamlessly blending English country living with 21st century modernity. This 5-star gem is absolute luxury but offers various different wedding packages so not totally unaffordable! Heading up north, Oulton Hall is one of the De Vere hotels, with a sweeping driveway which is one of the grandest in Yorkshire. Again, it perfectly marries an old-world charm with swish modern interiors and only 20 minutes drive from Leeds city centre. So grab your Art Deco wedding gown, and your long-stemmed white lily bouquet and become Lady Mary for the day!
Wakehurst Place is the country estate of the Royal Botanic Gardens of Kew. The varied landscape is a feast for the senses, featuring natural woodland, lakes, formal gardens and an Elizabethan house. It is ideal, in our opinion, for large or small stylish wedding ceremonies - and what's more if you're into seed conservation then you couldn't do better as it's the world's largest seed conservation project (who knew!). Wakehurst offers a variety of wedding packages, as you would expect from a National Trust venue, and a good range of different spaces to hold your ceremony, including different room in the Elizabethan mansion and different marquee packages. Now that Spring has sprung, thoughts inevitably turn to lovely, summery country weddings. One of our relatively recently added venues is Shilstone House in the heart of South Hams, Devon. It's a newly restored Georgian country house and offers breathtaking views of one of the most beautiful stretches of countryside. It stands in several hundred acres of land and the recent restoration of Shilstone House has won many prestigious awards. It makes us think of Elinor Dashwood and Edward Ferrars from Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, with that super romantic and pretty entrance with rolling hills behind, and the beautiful beach not too far away. Every wedding at Shilstone is bespoke, their aim is to be as flexible as possible to really make your day unique and as you want it - right down to offering yurts to hire (fully furnished, with a wood burning stone and bedding, no less!).
Leez Priory and Gosfield Hall are two of our favourites!
If Essex is your area of choice for getting married, you really are spoilt for choice! Leez Priory is the three-times winner of Wedding Ideas Magazine "Best Wedding Venue" and it's not hard to see why! Set in 40 acres of parkland complete with lakes, lawns and a sweeping driveway, the magnificent Tudor mansion can be yours exclusively for the day. Located in the heart of rural Essex yet only 15 minutes away from the centre of Chelmsford and the M11 to London. They have a special offer on at the moment - if you book before Sunday (when British Summer Time begins) then you get 15 bedrooms completely free of charge for the night of your wedding! Worth a look! Leez Priory is part of the Country House Weddings group, and their other Essex wedding venue is the rather beautiful Gosfield Hall, also award-winning! Formerly a Royal residence, the Queen Charlotte's
