The great British seaside can be a fantastic inspiration for your wedding, and there are endless ways to interpret the theme, for example with food you could go with fish n chips, icecream vans or, if you're feeling flash, oysters! (not forgettting you could always order your own seaside stick of rock with both your names printed through it...). There are also so many props to give your wedding a seaside spin - deckchairs, surf boards, shells, seaweed garlands and vintage metal buckets and spades. The British seaside has such a distinct look and what could be prettier than pastel beach huts and seaside bunting. And although Punch and Judy might not serve as your inspirational couple, they could be your wedding entertainment - for adults and kids alike.
If you don't want to go the whole hog and hold your wedding on a beach, but still want to adopt this lovely theme, you could always consider a venue close by. We've got two great (and very different) venues on the site that we would recommend. Portsmouth Guildhall has the most beautiful exterior and as you can see, grand steps leading to its bronzed doors which would make an incredible wedding photograph. It has a variety of rooms, both elegant and spacious, but our favourite is the Zodiac gallery which has the largest acid-stained mural in the world! Located minutes from the sea, you could easily adopt a seaside-flavoured theme.
If you've ever shied away from considering a city wedding, then these two venues will make you think again. Gibson Hall is a converted banking hall located in the heart of the City of London, with its own secluded garden (see pic!). The grandeur of the main hall and the peacefulness of its courtyard garden create the perfect blend of town and country. The Main Hall is absolutely gorgeous with its stunning chandeliers hung from a glorious domed ceiling. It's large enough to accommodate a stage and entertainment alongside the dinner layout, and depending on our requirements a whole range of different concepts can be created with lighting, draping, theming and table centres. We really love the flexibility of this! They offer many different wedding packages, and you can find out more by visiting their listing on the site.
Kate Moss did it, and so did George Clooney. But you don't need their bank balances to stretch out your wedding celebrations. Rather than cram everything into one day, why not take a more leisurely approach and we can't think of anywhere better to do this than The Green, Cornwall. Set in a beautiful private estate surrounded by orchards, meadows and a lake, it is the ultimate luxurious escape. There is a main house which can accommodate 12 and 6 further self catering cottages. They offer exclusive use of the whole of the Green for 3 nights weekend, or 2 night midweek and in their own words: 'Relaxed and original or traditional and formal: The Green can be whatever you want for your wedding. Our wedding planners can organise everything for you, or we’ll just provide the venue.'
There are several options for where you can hold the ceremony - either indoors; in the wedding barn or function room or outside under our beautiful arbour. Catering can be fine dining or a hog roast or pasties and Pimms. Then dance the night away under a veil of stars with a live band, disco or Cornish Ceilidh. How very lovely does this sound?? We think it would very probably suit a Wedstival type bride but without any of the discomfort!

So what to do want from a venue in the Winter? You want rich, sumptuous colours, romantic lighting, luxury, warmth, and most definitely glamour! One Wnitehall Place situated on the Thames, is all of those things.
Outside of London we've chosen the absolutely gorgeous Elmore court in Gloucestershire - the rich jewel colours - rubies, sapphires and deep velvety greens, the roaring log fires, frost covered grounds….
